A loss of $3.6 billion is estimated by the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji if the Asian Subterranean Termites are not controlled.

This was highlighted by the Authority CEO Michael Bartlett while addressing the Termite Taskforce that held their meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister.

He says they are looking at $3 billion in losses by 2060 in terms of infrastructure, businesses and loss of property.

The CEO says they believe it is possible to eradicate Asian Subterranean Termites through a high level of efficacy and protection, which comes down to the ability and the number of people working together in dealing with this issue.

He adds they are talking about hundreds of staff and not only tens.
