A 31-year-old man alleged to have stolen a vehicle from a shopping complex car park in Makoi yesterday has been arrested and is in police custody.

Chief Operations Officer ACP Livai Driu said the vehicle was found abandoned at a farm road in Tovata and all efforts were directed to arresting the person involved.

The 31-year-old suspect from Nausori was arrested later yesterday.

Meanwhile, two men residing in Samabula were arrested at the Delainavesi checkpoint after officers noticed the two acting in a suspicious manner.

Their vehicle was searched and dried leaves believed to be marijuana were found.

They were taken into custody as investigations continue.

The Chief Operations Officer said similar checkpoints will be set up throughout the long weekend.

Random breathalyser tests will also be conducted at snap roadblock throughout the day.

ACP Driu says Traffic Operations are also focused on awareness and reminding drivers to be cautious and if they're tired to stop by at their nearest Community Post and rest.

He says the Fiji Police is focused on providing a safe environment for all to enjoy, however, members of the public must also play their part in adhering to the advice and warnings issued.
