30 young men have been carefully chosen by their province for the first cohort of the Diploma in Vanua Leadership at the Fiji National University.
FNU says these are not ordinary students, as they have begun a journey that could change not only their lives but also the future of leadership across Fiji.
The Diploma in Vanua Leadership, a collaboration between the Fiji National University, the Great Council of Chiefs, and the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, is a landmark initiative.
FNU says that over one year, these 30 young leaders will receive training that combines ancestral knowledge and cultural protocols with modern strategies in governance, community development, and leadership.
They added that the program begins with two weeks under the guidance of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, focusing on discipline, national service, and resilience.
They also highlight that this will be followed by four weeks of academic instruction from FNU, where students will explore topics ranging from Fijian history and spiritual practices to modern policy making and conflict resolution.
FNU says classes are conducted in both iTaukei and English, ensuring accessibility and honouring linguistic heritage.
FNU adds that workshops and field training take learning out of the classroom and into real communities, equipping these leaders to address real world challenges, from climate change to youth unemployment.
Behind the structure and schedule lies something even deeper: the revitalization of traditional leadership for a modern era.
FNU says the Vanua needs leaders who understand the past but are not afraid of the future.
