A 3-year-old boy has drowned in the river opposite Wakanisila Settlement in Laqere.
Police say a report was received at Nasinu Police Station yesterday morning, after the child had gone missing from his home in the Naibulivatu Settlement in Laqere, whereby search efforts were initiated.
They say the circumstances leading up to the unfortunate incident are under investigation.
The national drowning toll currently stands at 27 compared to 45 for the same period last year.
