Three out of four suicide cases recorded last month are all school students, and this should be sending alarm bells to everyone on what the society should be doing to address the mental well-being of students in school.

Many people are also raising concerns on why Police are not highlighting these cases.

fijivillage News has established that last month, a 12 year old girl committed suicide after a disagreement, a 15 year old boy committed suicide in the west and a 13 year old boy committed suicide last week.

According to the statistics provided by the Fiji Police Force, there have been 56 suicides this year compared to 60 cases for the same period last year.

They say the number of attempted suicide cases as of the 22nd of July stands at 44 for this year, compared to 44 for the same period last year.

Police have been calling for anyone who is facing difficulties to reach out and talk to a person who can help them.

Statistics revealed in a Lifeline Fiji event at the end of last year show that a Fijian citizen attempts to take their own life every 36 hours and this highlights the magnitude of the challenge we face.

The youngest victim of suicide in Fiji was a 7 year old child.
