About 15 businesses that closed during the March lockdown in Lautoka City have reopened and diversified into restaurants and furniture retail stores, however, 3 businesses remain closed while only a few businesses have workers on reduced hours.

This has been confirmed by Lautoka Chamber of Commerce Chairman, Pyara Singh who says businesses suffered during the lockdown when shops were closed but they are doing fine after the lifting of the lockdown.

Singh says the reduction in duties that was announced in the 2020/2021 National Budget has also given some relief to the businesses as people are spending more.

Singh says the hosting of sporting events such as soccer and rugby matches every week is helping the businesses.
