A total of 296 teachers have received a pay rise for qualification upgrades as per the teacher remuneration setting policy.

While speaking during the Nasinu Secondary School Prefects Induction, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro says the payment was done last year during the Christmas pay with a total financial implication of around $2.3 million for this financial year.

Radrodro says the minimum qualification requirement is that they will be rewarding experienced teachers and loyal teachers who have been working for more than 20 years and are still being paid less than $22,000.

He says this initiative will be done in three phases - one is for 30 years plus, the second phase is from 25 years to 30 years and the last phase is from 20 years to 25 years.

He adds this initiative will be rolled out in the coming months, once internal verifications and consultations with stakeholders have been completed.
