Uprising Beach Resort in Pacific Habour

27 employees of the Uprising Beach Resort in Pacific Habour are now on reduced hours as a result of a huge reduction in tourist arrivals due to COVID-19.

Resort Manager, Rusiate Naulivou says they have divided the 27 employees into two teams and they work on rotational basis.

Naulivou says their staff only get paid for a maximum of 20 hours a week and any additional hours is banked, which will paid back to them once the resort is in a sustainable position.

He says they are continuing to share some of their food stock with their staff who are on reduced hours to help them through these tough times.

He adds they are hoping to get a full complement of staff by June or July, if the resort is able to pull through the crisis.

Naulivou says March is usually one of the busiest times of the year for them but this year they started receiving cancellations from their online travel agents and wholesalers.

He says the resort is currently depending on locals for revenue and they are also promoting their local residents special package which will continue next month where they are giving rates as low as $75 for a day.
