43 percent of Fijians have received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine while 2.1 percent of the target population are fully vaccinated.

Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor James Fong says this means 252,791 people have received at least one dose and 12,246 people are fully vaccinated.

He says in the first four days of this week, they have administered 14,425 first doses and 6,752 second doses.

In the Central Division, 9,897 people received their first dose this week and 3,904 people have received their second dose.

In the Western Division this week, 4,592 people received their first dose and 2,767 received their second.

He says they encourage all Fijians to arrange to get vaccinated as soon as you can.

Head of the Vaccination Taskforce, Doctor Rachel Devi says based on the availability of the AstraZeneca doses, they are aiming to get almost 70% of the target population fully vaccinated by September or October this year.

She says this would mean 410,655 people would be fully vaccinated.

The target population is 586,651.
