2,500 farming families are expected to benefit from round one of the Agriculture Ministry’s “Cash for Cultivation” programme.

Minister for Agriculture, Dr Mahendra Reddy says they have registered and approved over 1,150 farmers from around the country in the first round of the programme.

Under the programme, each farmer will get $200 if they cultivate a minimum of one acre of land for agricultural crop.

Dr Reddy says they are also expecting funding of $200,000 from a development partner who has shown their support for the programme and they are likely to get another half-a-million-dollars from another partner which means more farmers will benefit from the programme.
