A heavy rain warning and flash flood warning remains in force for the whole of Fiji as Category 3 Tropical Cyclone Vaianu is expected to move out of Fiji’s waters by this evening.

The system was located about 370 kilometres southwest of Kadavu at 5 this morning.

According to the Nadi Weather Office, TC Vaianu is maintaining a southeastward movement at around 20 kilometres per hour.

They say that although the system is beginning to move away, rain and strong north to northwesterly winds will continue to affect the country.

A flood warning remains in force for all low-lying and flood-prone areas to and downstream of the Tuva River in Nadroga, the Nawaka River, and the Nadi River.

The Nadi Weather Office says a flash flood warning remains in force for Viti Levu, while a flash flood alert remains in force for the rest of Fiji.

The Weather Office is urging everyone to stay safe and has also reminded parents to keep children away from flooded creeks and rivers.
