Sealegs vessel on land and out at sea

25 disaster response practitioners from around the country have completed an intensive training exercise on the use of Sealegs Vessels for disaster response.

The 4 Sealegs vessels and a Barge that was donated by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the National Disaster Management Office last June costs NZD $200,000 each while the Barge that sat at NZD $600,000 has become an asset for DISMAC.

The western Disaster response crew were very happy with the amphibious vessels as these vessels will be a big help to the flooded areas as it can travel on water and land.

The 4 Sealegs Vessels will be distributed to the 4 divisions and the officials from the New Zealand High Commission are very hopeful that the vessels are going to be very useful during disaster rehabilitation in the future.

Trainer for the Disaster Response Specialists, Garry Frost says their training involved demonstrating retrieval of a man overboard tactics which they conducted up the Rewa River and along the cost of Rewa and Nasilai.

Development Counsellor for the New Zealand High Commission Jonathan Rowe also congratulated those that completed the training course for their dedication.
