A 24-year-old man from Navo, Nadi who allegedly caused the death of his best friend and a boy in the horrific accident along the Queens Highway near Vunisalato Settlement in Naboro has been released on bail by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Mohammed Zubair has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death, two counts of dangerous driving causing grievous harm and one count of dangerous driving.

Suva Magistrate, Waleen George says they cannot disqualify Zubair from driving at this stage because he is innocent until proven guilty.

However, Magistrate George advised Zubair to refrain from driving for at least a month until he is in the right state of mind.

It is alleged Zubair was speeding when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer onto the opposite lane resulting in the head-on collision.

A 23-year-old man and an 8-year-old boy passed away in the accident while 7 other people had sustained serious injuries.

The 8-year-old boy was travelling with his parents in a small truck while the 23-year-old man was a passenger in the vehicle that allegedly caused the accident.

The case will be called on 18th February next year.
