Man charged with 1 count of Obtaining Financial Advantage

A 24-year-old man has been charged for allegedly obtaining money dishonestly through the mobile money transfer app.

The Fiji Police MPAiSA Task Force has charged the accused who lives in Bulileka settlement in Labasa with one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage and one count of in possession of property which is believed to be Proceeds of Crime..

They say the accused is alleged to have engaged with another and dishonestly obtained more than $700 from a member of the public through the MPAiSA platform on the 9th day of September 2022.

He is alleged to have told the victim that she had won the MPAiSA lottery where he managed to obtain her One Time Password (OTP), and later transferred the money to his account, and withdrew the said money at a supermarket in Labasa.

The 24-year-old will be produced at the Labasa Magistrates Court today.
