The 2020 Kula Awards has been cancelled however the Fiji Film Mobile Movie competition will be held this year.

Minister for Commerce, Trade and Transport Faiyaz Koya says this decision has been made in consideration of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Acting CEO of Film Fiji, Jone Tikoca says the Kula Awards has successfully grown to become a much-awaited event in the calendar of activities for schools around the country and Film Fiji considers the safety and well-being of students to be paramount.

Tikoca says the Film Fiji Mobile Movie competition will involve individual students to use their mobile phones to produce a 1 to a 5-minute short video, on a COVID-19 related theme.

He says this competition will be held in two categories; the 18 years and below category and the 18 years and above category.

The Acting CEO says they will be launching this competition this Wednesday.

Students who wish to participate in this competition will need to apply by visiting the Fiji Film website or their Facebook page.
