A 2-year-old child died in Lautoka last night after a tragic road accident.

Chief Operations Officer Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Livai Driu says the child was allegedly hit by a vehicle driven by a 32-year-old woman near Natokowaqa Housing in Lautoka after 6pm yesterday.

He says the child is alleged to have crossed the road suddenly resulting in the accident.

In another case, a child is admitted at the Lautoka Hospital after having suffered 13% burns.

The child was allegedly left unattended in her home in Votua Village, Ba last week when she sustained burns after a jug of hot water fell on her.

Police say the accidents and deaths are unfortunate, and they are calling on parents and guardians to prioritise the safety of their young children at all times.

The Fiji Police Force is again reiterating the need for parents and guardians to prioritise the supervision of their children, as accidents that could result in the loss of life can occur in a matter of seconds.
