The 17 year old boy of Waituri, Nausori charged with one count of sacrilege has been remanded at the Boys Centre.

The boy allegedly broke into a family temple and tried to set fire to the religious books and statues inside the temple.

Police say the owner of the property managed to put out the fire.

The 17-year-old has been charged with two counts of sacrilege.

The court has ordered that the parents to be contacted and to be informed that they should be present during the next court date.

The Social Welfare department has also been summoned.

The case will be called again on Thursday.
