A 17-year-old boy from Sukanaivalu Road, Lautoka is believed to have drowned in the Tawatawa River yesterday afternoon.

Police say the boy had gone to bathe in the river when the incident happened.

They say when he failed to surface after some time, a search was conducted whereby his body was found floating in the river.

The drowning toll currently stands at 37 compared to 41 for the same period last year.

Police say they are urging the public to be vigilant and take necessary precautions if they are intending on going for a picnic or will be involved in any water-related activities.
