The 17-year-old boy who allegedly caused the death of two men in their 40s after driving a government vehicle in Nausori over the weekend, appeared in the Nausori Magistrates Court this morning and has been remanded in custody.

The boy is charged with 2 counts of dangerous driving occasioning death, 1 count of driving without owning a valid license, and 1 count of driving a vehicle without the owner's consent.

It is alleged that the 17 year old boy took the car keys from his father while his father was asleep.

He was driving along Bau Road when the tragic incident occurred.

He hit the two men who were standing by the roadside and then fled the scene.

Police say he later informed his father, who immediately reported the matter to police.

The two men were rushed to the Nausori Health Centre, where medical officials confirmed their death.

The 17 year old will appear again in court this Friday.
