A $140,000 renovation project, funded through a donation by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has soft-launched the Empower Pacific Suva Counselling Centre, aiming to provide improved counselling services to Fijians.
Empower Pacific CEO Patrick Mogem highlights several issues that arose from the old counselling centre, stressing that the conditions also affected staff well-being, with many often falling ill.
He says there were many mosquitoes, not enough nets, no proper screens, and during heavy rain, water would seep through the walls.
Mogem emphasises the importance of their telephone services, including the counselling helpline 5626, where anyone can call free of charge.
Meanwhile, CWM Medical Superintendent Dr Luke Nasedra stresses that the renovated building will boost the morale of counsellors and social workers, especially after the challenges they have faced while providing counselling services.
He adds that people visiting the counselling centre will now feel more confident and relief as they walk into the improved facility.
