130 women residing in Suva and Nausori are now equipped with vital business and practical skills to support their families and communities after completing a week-long skills training program at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Samabula.

This has opened new doors to financial independence and self-reliance for participants, including single mothers, young adults, and women from families receiving welfare assistance.

Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, says over the five days, participants learned financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and marketing, alongside hands-on skills such as hairdressing, massage therapy, cake decorating, event planning, tapa printing, and early childhood education.

She praised the women’s commitment and highlighted the Government’s ongoing support for small businesses and women’s empowerment through various programs and financial assistance.

Kiran also acknowledges the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for initiating and hosting the training at their Samabula location.

She says the workshop demonstrated the power of community and resilience, and that participants gained important business skills to help them combine generosity with sound financial management.

Kiran assures that the Ministry stands with every citizen on the path to self-reliance, prosperity, and empowerment.

She adds that the program was delivered free of charge by expert trainers, ensuring all participants had access to quality instruction.

The program brought together women from the Suva Stake, Suva North Stake, and Nausori Stake areas, covering multiple chapels within the church community.
