12-yr-old girl in Belgium thought to be youngest COVID-19 victim in Europe

A 12-year-old girl in Belgium is thought to be the youngest victim in Europe of the coronavirus pandemic.

The girl had a fever for three days but her condition then worsened.

Belgium has lost 705 people to the pandemic and has almost 5,000 more in the hospital.

There have been more than 800,000 cases worldwide, with 38,000 dead; 170,000 have recovered.

In the US, three out of four people face some form of restriction.

The US has more than 175,000 confirmed virus cases and over 3,400 deaths.

It surpassed Italy last week as the country with the highest number of people suffering from COVID-19.

Spain has also recorded the highest number of fatalities in a single day – 849

A total of 1,789 people have died in the UK.

France has recorded 499 new hospital deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 3,523

American Airlines, one of the world's richest carriers, says it will apply for $US12bn in government aid.

The World Bank says "significant economic pain seems unavoidable" in the Asia Pacific region.
