100 patients at Ba Vision, an eye clinic and surgery centre, are awaiting their surgeries after experts from India were prevented from performing the procedures.
Ba Vision CEO, Jacqueline Luck highlighted this tonight during the Fijian Media Association's Meet the Public and the Press town hall session held in Ba.
Luck stated that the clinic provides community services and expressed her disappointment with the Ministry of Health for not allowing the experts to enter Fiji for the cataract procedures.
She says that these are award-winning surgeons.
In response to the concern, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says that the permits need to be issued.
Rabuka emphasised that the Ministry should be facilitating such visits, after verifying the qualifications of the surgeons, as patients’ safety will be in their hands.
The Ministry of Health informed fijivillage News that registration is required before any surgery can be conducted.
The Ministry also confirmed that it will look into these concerns.
