Queen Victoria School Head Boy and Under 18 rugby Deans winning Captain Anare Tabakaucoro says they did not come to defend the trophy but to win this year.

The Namara Tailevu student marshalled his players well on the field and ticked all the boxes during the final, defeating Nasinu Secondary School 27-13 in front of a sold-out HFC Bank Stadium crowd yesterday.

Tabakaucoro says they did not want to give the trophy away so easily and he kept urging his players to keep grinding to achieve their goal of retaining the trophy.

The 18-year-old says his message at halftime was simple, and that is to tick all the boxes in terms of knowing their roles on the field and executing their game plan well during the final.

QVS successfully defended the Vodafone Super Deans under 18 trophy and also won $7000 as prize money.
