Thousands along Suva-Nausori face water disruption as WAF works to restore supply by tomorrow morning

Thousands of people living in Suva and Nausori areas are affected by water disruption as the Water Authority of Fiji says Waila Raw Water Pump Station is affected by mechanical issues.

They say the disruption is a result of two out of five raw water pumps at the station being affected, reducing raw water inflow by 26 million liters per day or 25 percent.

WAF says this has significantly impacted water production at the Waila Water Treatment Plant and water levels at key storage reservoirs, including Wainibuku reservoir.

They say to mitigate the impact, teams are working to supplement the Waila and Wainibuku supply system with the Viria Scheme and working to replace one of the faulty pumps by 9 tonight.

They say this will gradually restore production at the Waila Water Treatment Plant to around its normal capacity and improve water levels at the Wainibuku reservoir.

Water supply to affected areas is expected to begin improving early tomorrow morning.
