It was a memorable day yesterday for Fiji's female para-athlete, Merewalesi Vakacegu Rodan, as she was honoured for her success and dedication to para-sports in the country.

Rodan is also part of the feminist diplomacy initiative led by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, and her achievements contribute to the build-up towards the 2024 Olympics and Paralympic Games in France.

During the event, Rodan says that she never allowed her disability to hinder her participation in all aspects of life and she acknowledges that this mindset has allowed her to come this far both in sports and in other areas.

Rodan says this focus on strengths is beneficial for her as an individual but also beneficial for relationships between the countries of France and Fiji.

French Embassy Ambassador to Fiji, François-Xavier says they commemorate a plaque at the Embassy to honour the achievements and dedication shown by Rodan.

Xavier says Rodan is not only an icon but also a sporting inspiration of today and accepted their generous invite to be part of something unique such as this.

He says Rodan has given a significant amount of her life to the sport of table tennis representing Fiji at many international competitions and winning medals.

He adds this year is a very important year for sports diplomacy for France as they prepare for the Paris 2024 Games and the Paralympic Games.

Meanwhile, the Paralympic Games Paris 2024 will be held from 28th August to 8th September 2024.
