International Needs Fiji’s Executive Director Tomu Raiviu has revealed they received a number of requests for assistance from people around the country for Christmas celebration.

Raiviu says they managed to distribute grocery packs and other items to these families earlier this week to ensure they could celebrate Christmas like any other family.

He says they assisted over 100 families in the last two months in partnership with Sai Prema Foundation.

Raiviu says they still receive a number of requests daily which means that there are families who are struggling to make ends meet on a day to day basis.

He adds Christmas is about sharing and generosity and nothing else shines brighter than people looking out for each other.

Raiviu adds the little that we give makes a lot of difference to others and Christmas would be more meaningful if we start doing that.

If you want to assist families who need assistance, you can contact International Needs Fiji on 3393542.

Meanwhile, around 70 people of Davetalevu Village in Tailevu gathered at the community hall today for their Christmas lunch after their church service this morning.

Iliesa Tui who has maternal links to the village says it is good to see the men, women and children come together in unity to celebrate and acknowledge the birth of Christ.

Tui says the people in the village normally gather every year to celebrate Christmas with friends and loved ones.
