Almost two months after Deputy Prime Minister, Manoa Kamikamica’s mobile phone was seized in a search warrant by FICAC, there is still no update on the Commission of Inquiry investigation.
Last week FICAC officers also showed up with a search warrant at Communications Fiji Limited, the home of fijivillage, LegendFM, FM96, VITIFM, Navtarang and Radio Sargam, to take some of the interviews we had done with Kamikamica after the seizure of his mobile phone.
When asked on an update on the FICAC investigation into Kamikamica, Acting FICAC Commissioner, Lavi Rokoika said they do not comment on search warrants, evidence, or specific lines of inquiry (including interviews) during live investigations.
Rokoika says all actions are taken in accordance with the law and, where required, with judicial authorization.
She has not revealed whether Kamikamica has been questioned.
Kamikamica made it clear to fijivillage News that he did not have any phone calls or discussions with anyone regarding Barbara Malimali’s appointment as FICAC Commissioner.
Kamikamica said that, as far as he understands, her appointment was based on the merits of the interview process, and he believes Francis Puleiwai was the last person to be interviewed.
He questioned what the actual issue is, dismissing the claims as conspiracy theories and nonsense about alleged collusion.
He added that when FICAC examines his phone, they will see there is nothing to discuss concerning the events in question.
Kamikamica had earlier stressed that the appointment of Malimali as FICAC Commissioner was solely the decision of the Judicial Services Commission and not Cabinet.
He confirmed that no specific Cabinet meeting was held for the appointment of Malimali when he was Acting Prime Minister.
