The National Federation Party has honoured the memory of Justice Jai Ram Reddy on his death anniversary, describing him as a visionary leader whose life and work profoundly shaped Fiji’s democracy, legal system and social harmony.
The NFP says Justice Reddy dedicated himself to the common good of all Fijians, making significant personal and professional sacrifices to ensure justice, equality and dignity for every citizen.
They say he gave up the country’s most prominent law firm to fully commit to political service, demonstrating a rare devotion to principle over personal gain.
The NFP says Justice Reddy understood that the security and future of Fiji’s diverse communities depended on building meaningful relationships across ethnic divides.
His courageous partnership with then–Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in the post-1987 period helped bridge deep national divides, culminating in the 1997 Constitution — a landmark achievement that enshrined equality, multiracial representation, and fundamental rights for all Fijians.
They says his vision continues to inspire the National Federation Party, and they say they uphold his principles through their ongoing partnership with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, carrying forward his legacy of dialogue, trust, and reconciliation to strengthen multiracial unity and democratic governance in Fiji.
Beyond politics, Justice Reddy served with distinction as President of the Fiji Court of Appeal and as a judge of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, earning international respect for his integrity, wisdom, and commitment to justice.
The NFP has reaffirmed its dedication to the values Justice Reddy championed — justice, equality, democracy, and unity for all the people of Fiji.
