Minister for Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau

Minister for Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau reminds all road users that they share equal responsibilities in ensuring road safety whether they are a driver, a passenger or a pedestrian.

Ro Filipe says the Ministry and LTA continued to encourage road users to keep within the prescribed speed limits and avoid drink-driving and other distractions while also staying alert and mindful of other road users.

He says the Ministry of Transport, LTA, Fiji Police Force Fiji Roads Authority and stakeholders focus on accelerating road safety awareness efforts and campaigns over the festive season and into the new year.

The Minister says during their discussion today they have talked about strengthening combined operations between the LTA and Fiji Police Force, strict monitoring of high-risk areas and black spots, tightening up on driving schools, as well as the issuance of Driving Instructor Permits and conducting rigorous awareness programs in communities that targeted driver, passenger and pedestrian behaviors.

He further says we have lost enough lives on our roads and his sincere condolences to all families.

He is also reminding all road users to exercise caution and vigilance at all times during the festive season while also complying with road safety rules and he urges all Fijians to drive responsibly as we move into the festive season.

He adds LTA will continue to roll out its community and public outreach programmes on road safety education and awareness, as well as our roadside interventions, advanced driver training programmes and media partnerships to amplify the key messages on adhering to road safety rules and standards.
