A 20-year-old man who allegedly raped a 10-year-old girl in an evacuation centre in Seaqaqa last Wednesday has been remanded in custody by Labasa Magistrate, Bimsara Jagodage.

Police say the man and the girl are related.

The man is facing two counts of rape.

The court was told that this was the second time the man had allegedly raped the girl as the first incident is alleged to have occurred in 2015 when the girl was in class one.

The court was told the man allegedly took the girl in the washroom of the evacuation centre and raped her. The girl later told her mother about the alleged incidents.

The case has been transferred to the Labasa High Court which will be called on the 8th of next month.
