A man in his 30s has been charged with causing the alleged death of a 1-year-old boy in Cunningham.

Police say they were alerted by medical officials at the CWM Hospital on the 17th of October 2024, of a case where a boy was pronounced dead on arrival and had visible injuries allegedly due to an assault.

Police say upon investigation the accused, who is the victim’s mother’s defacto partner, had an alleged history of being abusive and also allegedly assaulted the victim’s 3-year-old brother who was found at his home with visible injuries.

They say investigators consulted the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions whereby the accused was then formally charged with one count of murder, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and one count of act intended to cause grievous harm.

He will appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
