Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad visited the Balevuto dam site in Ba, where the Water Authority of Fiji briefed the Minister on the works that they have carried out in Balevuto.

Professor Prasad acknowledged the hard work carried out by the WAF staff in addressing the issue faced in Balevuto.

He says there was a lot of unnecessary alarm created by some people, and all the tests the experts have done showed that what was rumoured, to be false.

Professor Prasad says he has been told that by the end of November, everything will be done, and there will be an uninterrupted water supply.

He adds this will not only benefit the residents in Balevuto but also the infrastructure plans that WAF has for the Western Division that will obviously alleviate a lot of the concerns we see in parts of Lautoka and Nadi.

The Deputy Prime Minister says the commissioning of the Viria Water Project in the Central Division is also likely to reduce and perhaps eliminate the persistent water supply problems faced in the Central Division, including the Suva Nausori area.
