A heavy rain alert is now in force for Viti Levu and is also in force Kadavu, Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lomaiviti and Southern Lau Group.
The Nadi Weather Office says a trough of low pressure lies to the North-west and another trough of low pressure lies to the West of the country and are expected to drift close to the country and affect from tonight.
They say that showers are expected to become frequent from later this afternoon. Heavy rain can cause flooding of low lying areas.
