The Government is looking at opening the second round of applications for concessional loans that are being given to micro, medium and small enterprises.

This has been highlighted by Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in a panel discussion at the US Embassy after a member of the Academy for Women in Business in Ba asked if there will be another opportunity for new women going into business to apply for the loan scheme.

The representative from the Academy for Women in Business says most of the women missed out as they are still trying to register their businesses and they are asking the government if the concessional loan applications will be open for them.

Sayed-Khaiyum says he cannot give a definite date on when the next round of applications will start as they are still finalising the 9,000 applications but they are looking at opening for another round.

He says the government has already disbursed close to $25 million under the loan scheme.

Under the concessional loans scheme, they are providing up to $7,000 for the existing and new micro-enterprises applications and up to $14,000 to $21,000 for existing small and medium enterprises.
