First wave of athletes and officials depart for Pacific Games

142 athletes and officials will be leaving our shores today for the Pacific Games 2023 in Honiara.

The team that left this morning includes Swimming, Tennis, Golf, Archery, Basketball, Weightlifting and Volleyball.

There is another flight this afternoon at 3pm for the Medical and Physio team, Rugby League, Football, Table Tennis, Rugby 7s and Karate.

The team that left this morning thanked Fiji Airways flight attendant Avikash Lal for looking after them on the flight. Lal is a fellow athlete and will be competing in athletics next week.

Lal will take part in the 5,000 metres, 10,000 metres and the half marathon which is 21,000 metres.

A few sports start this Friday including Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis and Football.

The Pacific Games officially start this Sunday and end on December 2nd, 2023.
