The legality of the appointment Lavi Rokoika as Acting FICAC Commissioner still remains an issue however FICAC says they will not say anything.

fijivillage News has asked Rokoika to comment on the repeated issue being brought up of her appointment not made under the law.

It was confirmed in a statement by Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka in May this year that President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu had appointed Rokoika as the Acting FICAC Commissioner, and it was confirmed this was done without consultation with the Judicial Services Commission.

The FICAC Act requires the appointment to be made by the President after consultation by the Judicial Services Commission.

We also sought Rokoika's comments knowing that this can have major legal repercussions based on the charges being approved by the Acting Commissioner and the legality of her appointment in question.

FICAC says they will not be making any comments on this matter at this time.

When approached by fijivillage News, Prime Minister Rabuka said the question of whether the appointment of Rokoika as Acting Commissioner is lawful or not is a matter before the courts now, and he will not comment as he could be accused of being in contempt of the court.
