FCCC monitoring activities of online rewards business offering lotteries and exclusive deals

Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission is keeping an eye on the activities of an online business that is giving away rewards through lotteries and proving them with exclusive deals from certain retailers.

fijivillage News discovered Loloma Rewards through an advertisement on facebook and highlighted it to the FCCC, Reserve Bank of Fiji, Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and the Consumer Council of Fiji.

While responding to questions by fijivillage News, FCCC says they are not currently investigating this, as they have not received any complaints.

They say if they receive any complaints, they will make an inquiry but in the interim, as a member of the Anti-scam Taskforce, they are keeping an eye on their activities.

FCCC says they have no reason so far to say this is a scam but if they happen to find any wrongdoing, they will refer it to the relevant authorities.

They stress their general advise, however, as always, is for people to be cautious before signing up for any scheme or programme where they have to spend money.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Loloma Rewards Director, Elvin Kumar says they are a subscription-based rewards and loyalty program.

He says they want to offer the direct benefits to their members through building partnerships with the businesses in Fiji.

Kumar says they are registered as an online business describes what they do as marketing.

He was born in Canada to Indo-Fijian parents and raised in Australia, shifted his focus to Fiji after stepping away from retail before COVID-19.

The Reserve Bank of Fiji referred questions to the Consumer Council of Fiji, which, along with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, has yet to respond
