The Water Authority of Fiji says the comments made by National Federation Party Leader, Professor Biman Prasad regarding the recent water disruptions shows that Prasad has very little understanding of the basic science of treating water.

Prasad said that the continued disruptions to the water supply experienced in Suva is yet another indictment of the failure of the Water Authority of Fiji and the government.

He says these disruptions have caused unnecessary pain to thousands of Fijians who depend on a steady water supply for their daily need.

The NFP Leader is calling on the Water Authority CEO to live up to the exorbitant salary that taxpayers are paying him and deliver the best services to Fijians.

Responding to Prasad, WAF Chairman Bhavesh Kumar says their infrastructure which was built decades ago is not designed to cater for about 600,000 people who are now living in the Central Division.

Kumar says their teams work long hours to provide water to Fijians and conducting repairs when the ageing infrastructure breaks.

He says the Water Authority CEO Barry Omundson has travelled to places no other CEO has ever set foot, let alone cared about.

Kumar says Omundson is not afraid of assuming responsibility if it is within his control and to tell others what can realistically be done with what they have.

The NFP Leader has also said that there is no water when it rains and no water when it does not rain but Kumar says this shows that Prasad has very little understanding of the technical aspect of treating water.

The Chairman also questioned why Prasad will only provide a plan for water services and infrastructure if NFP gets into government.

Kumar says if Prasad has a real non-fictional plan that he believes could improve water services, then he should send it over and not wait until NFP may get into government.

He says such a plan, if it exists, would immensely help our country and we must cast politics aside and do what is good for the people.
