The wife of Fiji Men’s 7s team coach Gareth Baber, Danielle Baber says her husband rang them up immediately after they beat New Zealand in the final.
She says she has not seen him smile so much in a long time
She says Baber has been under a lot of pressure recently and the boys have been away from their families for a long time.
She adds the plan initially was to be in Tokyo but that had to be dropped.
Coach Baber will now go and see his family in the UK and will return to Fiji later in the year.
Fiji retained their Olympic gold medal after beating New Zealand 27-12 in the final last night.
