Minister for Education Rosy Akbar.

Education Minister Rosy Akbar says on this special day, we must recognise the hardworking single mothers and extended family members who have stepped in to provide the anchor of support for their families.

Akbar says she salutes the brave efforts of the men and women who are shouldering the wonderful and tremendous responsibilities of fatherhood.

She says many families will also cherish the memories of their fathers who are no longer with them on this day.

She says fathers stand as pillars of strength, uplifting our beloved nation, and are an integral part of the Fijian family.

Akbar says this day is a time to reflect on our renewed roles in protecting and keeping our nation's families together.

She says children are our most precious gifts and even in these trying and challenging times we must continue to uplift spirits, spreading hope and love.

Akbar says a father can be anyone who takes up the challenge to fulfil fatherly duties, including single mothers, grandparents and guardians.
