2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent has been launched

The 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent has been launched to secure the well-being of the people, guarantee the future of children and secure a future for the people.

While speaking at the launch of the 2050 Strategy, Fijian Prime Minister and Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ meeting, Voreqe Bainimarama says they owe the people a strategic response to their greatest challenges, especially to our youth, our children and grandchildren who will inherit and their collective ambition.

He says it is also why the strategy focuses on the ocean and our shared natural and environment resources as a critical part of the strategy.

The Chair says the shared bounty of the ocean and its resources are the key to ensuring we retain our strategic autonomy and our livelihood for the current and the future generation.

In the 2050 Strategy that has been signed by the 17 members of the Forum, the leaders have committed to nurture collective political will and deepen regionalism and solidarity, collectively deliver for the people, embed their Blue Pacific identity, secure the well-being of the people, protect the people and their place, accelerate our economic growth aspirations, guarantee the future of the children, secure a future for the people, protect the ocean and environment and ensure a well-connected region.

Bainimarama adds he will ensure the 2050 Strategy is translated into the language of the member country's language.
