The Fiji Airways Fiji National 7s team got their Bordeaux campaign off to a strong start with a 31–12 win over Kenya in France.
Fiji’s speedy half-back Terio Veilawa made an immediate impact, scoring the fastest try of the tournament just 15 seconds into the match.
Kenya responded with a try after capitalising on a loose ball from a tackle, before Fiji were reduced to 6 men when Kaveni Tanivanuakula was shown a yellow card for a late challenge on the try scorer.
Despite the setback, George Bose crossed for Fiji’s second try following a brilliant coast-to-coast team move that saw Fiji run the length of the field to lead 12–7 at halftime.
Kenya fought back early in the second half, scoring to level the match at 12–12 in the third minute.

However, Fiji took control from there, with tries from Kaveni Tanivanuakula and Apete Narogo pushing them ahead 26–12.
Narogo then sealed the win with a bonus try to complete a convincing 31–12 victory.
Fiji now turns its focus to Australia at 3:51am today, before facing Brazil at 11:32pm tomorrow in their final pool match.
