Fiji's Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho is currently in Papua New Guinea surrounded by the stand‑off between his PNG counterpart and fraud investigators.
EMTV reports that Qiliho will be in PNG for two days discussing regional issues with PNG Police Commissioner Gari Baki.
Qiliho was given a guard of honour when he arrived, after which he inspected the parade hosted by the members of the Royal Papua New Guinea constabulary.
Baki said he will be pushing the idea for Fiji to take onboard a contingent from the PNG police to be part of international peacekeeping missions.
This week Baki confirmed the suspension of leading members of PNGs national anti‑fraud unit who are advancing a major fraud case which implicates the Prime Minister Peter O'Neill.
The suspension has been stayed by the court but a dangerous division has emerged within PNG's police force over the matter.
Fiji and PNG are members of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.
