Planned attacks and robberies by groups of youths continue at night in the heart of Suva City

Serious concerns continue to be raised regarding the planned attacks and robberies being carried out by some people at night in the heart of Suva City.

Fijivillage continues to receive reports and has also witnessed people being attacked and robbed along Victoria Parade, Thomson Street, Carnarvon Street and other surrounding areas.

The main people being targeted are those coming out of the nightclubs or restaurants.

The latest complaint to be received by Fijivillage is from a couple who were assaulted outside Signals Nightclub on Carnarvon Street over the weekend.

The man and woman were walking along the street after dinner when the incident took place.

An eyewitness has told Fijivillage that on the night, it was clear that a group of youths carried out the planned robbery.

The six youths ambushed the couple, punched the man and then tried to rob them. Some bystanders came to the couple’s rescue and the youths ran away in different directions.

People have raised concern that these planned attacks and robberies by groups of youths happen almost every night, and there are many cases between Wednesday to Saturday nights.

They are calling for more police patrols, foot and bike patrols and CCTV cameras to stop this dangerous trend.

We have already raised the concern after other cases came up over the past few months as Suva City gets busy at night from Wednesday to Saturday.

When asked, Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro earlier said their officers are patrolling and while they cannot be everywhere, they are conducting regular patrols especially during times when the capital city is busy during the weekends.

The Fiji Roads Authority had earlier said that they will be carrying out streetlight renewals for 76 streets in Suva and they will prioritise these based on public consideration which will improve safety and security.

We will have more on this later.
