FRA to improve deteriorated roads in the Central Division

FRA to improve deteriorated roads in the Central Division

The Fiji Roads Authority says they will be working to improve deteriorated roads in the Central Division.

Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Moore says now that the weather has improved, FRA will be continuously working to bring the road condition under control.

Moore says the deterioration in many areas following the prolonged period of heavy rainfall has resulted in inevitable potholes.

He says that FRA cannot carry out sectional carriageway repairs on the worst affected areas until there is a clear four lane route along Kings Road from Rewa Bridge to Nakasi, as this would result in even worse congestion and disruption that is currently being experienced.

The CEO says that work on the four‑lane project on Kings Road is still on track for the end of June and once these works complete,  FRA will be shifting their focus onto Princes Road where severely damaged sections will be completely renewed.

This work is expected to start in July and end by October this year.

Moore says that during the repairs to the worst sections of the Princes Road, these sections will be closed off to carry out resurfacing works but will maintain two way traffic for local access wherever possible.

He says following the work on Princes Road, the team will move to Ratu Dovi Road to carry out similar works.

FRA has also confirmed that the second phase of the Suva Arterial Road Upgrade Project will also begin as the contracts of these projects have been awarded to respective contractors.

Moore has revealed that during the second phase of the Suva Arterial Road Upgrade Project, FRA will be working on roads such as Amy Street, Foster Road and Karsanji Street.
