Fiji edge South Africa 15-12 in thrilling pool finale

The Fiji Airways Men's National 7s team secured a hard-fought 15-12 victory over South Africa in their final pool match, surviving a tense encounter to finish on top.

South Africa's discipline proved costly early in the game when one of their players received a yellow card in the third minute.

Fiji quickly capitalized on the numerical advantage, with Apete Narogo crossing the line in the fourth minute to give his side a 5-0 lead.

South Africa responded strongly a minute later, scoring their opening try to take a narrow 7-5 advantage.

Fiji regained control before halftime through George Bose, who finished off an impressive team move after sustained possession from the restart.

His try gave Fiji a 10-7 lead heading into the break.

In the second half, Vuiviawa Naduvalo showcased his blistering pace, sprinting nearly 100 metres to score Fiji's third try and extend the lead.

Fiji then faced a stern challenge when Isaia Drumu was shown a yellow card, handing South Africa a numerical advantage.

The Boks launched several attacks on the Fijian try line in the closing stages, but Fiji's defence held firm, forcing a crucial turnover in the final seconds to seal a thrilling 15-12 victory.

Fiji will play South Africa in the quarter final scheduled to begin at 3.28am tomorrow, the semi finals are at 11.14am Sunday, with the finals at 3.41am on Monday.

In other results Great Britan defeated Kenya 14-5, New Zealand defeated Argentina 24-21 and France edged Germany 14-7.
