Minister for Policing and Communication Ioane Naivalurua is calling on communities in the Northern Division to work together with Government in the fight against drugs.
While closing the Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival in Labasa last night, Naivalurua stressed that the eradication of crime and drugs is possible if communities work together.
He is calling on people to come forward and be part of the effort to address crime and drug-related issues, saying communities should not remain on the sidelines by simply gossiping and commenting.
He says Government is committed to the fight and is urging people to come to the frontline where the battle is being fought.
The Minister says that during the one-week carnival, contestants raised these issues, and the Police remain committed to addressing them.
He says that, as the Minister responsible for Policing, combating crime and drugs would be a difficult task without the support of communities.
He says that, with the new financial year underway, the Fiji Police Force will continue its fight with its new budget allocation, along with new laws that are being introduced.
Naivalurua says the new Police Bill will help Police combat crime, while the Government's decision to establish a new Counter Narcotics Bureau will focus on combating drugs.
He is calling on everyone to work together in the spirit of Duavata to maintain a stable, peaceful and resilient Fiji.
