Fiji Corrections Service launches investigation into Lautoka remand centre assault

A formal investigation has been initiated to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident at the Fiji Corrections Service as they are aware of the incident circulating on social media involving an alleged assault at the Lautoka Remand Centre.

In a statement, the Fiji Corrections Service says violence or assault of any kind, whether committed by an officer against a prisoner or by a prisoner against an officer, is not tolerated.

The Service says any individual found to have abused their authority or engaged in unlawful conduct will be held accountable in accordance with the law.

The Fiji Corrections Service has assured the public that a comprehensive update will be provided once the investigation is complete.
