Tacirua East residents raise burglary concerns - 4 homes hit in 2 days

Concerns are being raised by Tacirua East residents after four homes were broken into over the last few days while Police say they can confirm 2 burglary reports.

Despite Police saying only 2 reports received, fijivillage News can confirm that Police visited 3 homes after the break-ins on Thursday night and took statements on the incidents.

For one of the incidents, we also had to drop the CID officer at the third crime scene at about midnight as the Police vehicle had left him at the other crime scene.

The residents say they see a lot of teenagers loitering on the streets in the day and the night.

They are asking what is being done about it.

A resident whose house was broken into in Thursday night along Niuvula Road says officers that came to dust for fingerprints confirmed another three break ins.

They say when they called the Police, it took them quite some time to get there, not because of the shortage of vehicles but because there was only one driver.

While a detective was still taking down the details from a house that had been broken into, they received a call that another house had just been broken into.

Another place that was identified by concerned residents is Naibaba.

fijivillage News also raised the issue two years ago of there being no street lights in that area so people who get off the bus along Khalsa Road have to walk home in the dark.

Residents in the area two years ago were asking why no street lights have been installed by the Fiji Roads Authority and how are the authorities planning subdivisions without having these basic services.

They say poles have been allocated in their area however installment of lights has not been carried out which increases safety risks for the residents.

They are also questioning whether the FRA will start acting when people are attacked or robbed.

While responding to our questions two years ago, FRA said they were committed to implementing a plan that will enhance visibility and safety along Tacirua East Road.

Since then, nothing has been done.

We have reached out to the Police who say operations in the Tacirua East area remain ongoing, with increased patrols, heightened police visibility, and strengthened community engagement initiatives to sustain operations and ensure the safety and security of residents.

We have also reached out to the Nasinu Town Council and are awaiting their response.

Stay with us as we investigate this major issue.
